Malta is a tiny island located in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea, south of Italy and north of Libya, Africa.

Like many countries in the region, Jewish life had its ups and downs. Malta had many temporary Jewish communities along the lines, with expulsion during the Inquisition, and resurgence when the French and British took over. By the end of the 1800’s, most Maltese Jews considered themselves British and were largely involved in business. They maintained a strong yet small Jewish community throughout, with an influx during the Holocaust, as it was the only European country that didn’t require visas for Jews to enter.

The community in Malta is currently home to approximately 50 families. Brexit inspired an influx of new settlers to the area from Eretz Yisroel and Gibraltar, and according to the Rav, there were 14-15 families who previously used a mikvah and were no longer doing so, due to the lack of local facilities.

With tremendous gratitude to the Ribbono Shel Olam, Mikvah Tahara was the catalyst to establish a luxurious new Mikvah in this remote locale and it is now being used for many Tevilos per month.
